How is it Organized?

International Collaborations

When the United Nations (UN) adopted a resolution proclaiming 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry, it placed the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) at the helm of the event. These two dedicated international partners will serve as coordinators, facilitators, mentors, and material providers. The global IYC website is a great source of information on the history of IYC, ideas and activities, and branding.

Canadian Leadership

The Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) has taken the lead to bring together chemistry professionals and other enthusiasts to ensure that the IYC message is heard loud and clear. It created a Canada-wide IYC organizing committee, chaired by CIC past chair David Dolphin, O.C., FCIC. The committee comprises volunteers from academia, industry and trade associations, including the CIC’s close partner the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC, formerly CCPA).
