The 2012 winner is:

Alan Doucette, MCIC
Dalhousie University
Department of Chemistry

Alan Doucette, MCIC, completed his BSc at Dalhousie University in 1997, before moving to the University of Alberta to pursue a PhD in chemistry in 2002. His research, under supervision of Liang Li, focused on analytical aspects of proteome profiling through mass spectrometry. He remained in Edmonton to undertake an AHFMR/ ACB Postdoctoral Fellowship position from 2002–2004 with Carol Cass at the Cross Cancer Institute, Department of Oncology, University of Alberta. Doucette returned to Dalhousie and accepted an appointment as assistant professor of chemistry in 2004. He was appointed associate professor in 2009.

Doucette’s research group focuses on novel technology development for proteome analysis through mass spectrometry. Emphasis is towards automating the sample processing steps in a high throughput and reproducibility fashion. His commercial highlights include the development of liquid-phased fractionation platform known as GELFrEE (Anal. Chem. 2008, 80, 1568-1573), currently licensed and distributed by Protein Discovery (now merged with Expedion Protein Solutions). A second protein purification technology has recently been licensed to Bike Scientific, with commercial release anticipated shortly.
