About Bylaws
New Proposed By-Laws for the Canadian Society for Chemistry
Members of the Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) will vote on proposed new by-laws for the society at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) May 27, 2013 in Quebec City during the 96th Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition. The draft by-laws are linked below. Members are encouraged to read the draft by-laws along with the FAQs to familiarize themselves with the content and then to attend the AGM. CSC Director Hugh Horton will officially present the draft by-laws to the meeting and field questions from the audience.
The new draft by-laws to be presented at the AGM have been prepared by the Canadian Society for Chemistry Board of Directors in consultation with legal counsel. By-law amendments will be required to conform to the new Canada Not-for-Profit Corporation Act. The Act will also impact the financial management of the Subject Divisions.
By-laws determine what services and benefits are provided to members, what constitutes a member and how members can become engaged in the activities and governance of the Society. The proposed new by-laws aim to improve grassroots member involvement and transparency of financial management of the CSC. The AGM will provide members the opportunity to participate in the future direction of our Society.
In addition to the by-laws, CSC members will also be asked to vote on two related documents: the CSC Articles of Continuance and a Sample Charter for a CSC Subject Division.
