IYC is a global celebration devoted to chemistry and its role in the well-being of
society. Through events at the local, provincial, national, and international levels, organizers hope to
spark enthusiasm for this central science in all people, of all ages.

The International Year of Chemistry Canadian activities were a resounding success thanks to
the involvement of chemistry and chemical engineering departments, CIC local sections and companies. Our IYC
activities ranged from main stream media exposure “Jeopardy!”, Discovery Channel and YTV to an online
contest, to outreach activities like Science Rendezvous and public lecture tours and finally to a Canada Post
commemorative stamp. Many of these programs were made possible though the support of our generous
sponsors.
The Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) IYC Organizing Committee thanks everyone who
participated in IYC. Our efforts significantly contributed to building the public’s awareness of chemistry
and its importance in our everyday lives. CIC will continue its outreach activities in 2012 and beyond.
